The Stallibrass Almshouses in Barkway were endowed by the three granddaughters of John Stallibrass and were built to house single women over 60 who had been born or who resided in Barkway, Nuthampstead, Reed or Anstey. Over time it has not always been possible to find potential residents to fulfill th criteria, nevertheless preference is always given to those who do.
